National Antarctic Scientific Center (NASC) of Ukraine and Malaysian Foundation for Antarctic Research named after Sultan Mizan intend to conduct joint scientific research. On October 26th, the parties signed a corresponding memorandum. Scientists from the Republic of South Africa want to conduct Antarctic research with the help of a Ukrainian icebreaker.

Ukraine will spend up to UAH 195 million (USD 7.3 million) on annual maintenance of the icebreaker James Clark Ross. This is UAH 50 million (USD 1.8 million) more than its cost.

State Institution “National Antarctic Scientific Center” (NASC) has signed an agreement with the Estonian company Pech OU on the transportation of the icebreaker James Clark Ross to Ukraine. The cost of the service is $1.33 million.
