The abandoned yacht of a Russian oligarch was purchased by a secret buyer

The Alfa Nero superyacht, which belonged to the sanctioned Russian oligarch Andriy Guriev, was sold to a new owner.

The ship was sold to a new owner for $40 million. This was announced by the ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda to the United States, Ronald Sanders, Bloomberg reports.

The ambassador declined to name the buyer, citing a non-disclosure agreement.

The country tried to sell the yacht for two years. At first, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt wanted to buy it for $67.6 million, but changed his mind. The daughter of a Russian oligarch prevented him from buying.

For two years, the ship was in Falmouth harbor in Antigua. Its maintenance cost the state more than $100,000 a month.

Superyacht Alfa Nero is registered in the Cayman Islands through an opaque offshore company. The ship includes a 12-meter swimming pool, jacuzzi, spa, beauty salon and helipad. The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) determined that Guryev bought a yacht for $120 million in 2014. The vessel was repeatedly used by the oligarch’s family. Instead, Guriev himself denies that he is the owner of Alfa Nero.
