The Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation may lose the status of a strategic alliance

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation proposed to deprive the Northern Fleet of the status of a strategic alliance.

Russia is considering plans to deprive the Northern Fleet of the status of an inter-species strategic territorial unit and to stop the application of the Regulations on the Military District of the Armed Forces to it. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, this will allegedly allow optimizing the management system of the armed forces.

In the explanatory note to the project, it was reported that the Republic of Komi, the Nenets Autonomous District, Arkhangelsk and Murmansk Oblasts will come under the leadership of the Leningrad Military District.
