Turkey has increased its import of russian LNG 11 times

In January-September, Turkey imported 111,000 tons of liquefied gas from russia — this is 11 times more than the figure for the same period last year.

In general, during the 9 months of 2022, LNG imports to Turkey decreased by 4% to 2.23 million tons, as evidenced by the data of the Turkish Institute of Statistics.

Turkey reduced its gas imports due to a decrease in solvent demand, which occurred as a result of the devaluation of the national currency, the Turkish lira.

This year, as before, the USA and Algeria remain the largest LNG suppliers to Turkey. Their share in total Turkish imports is 84%.

However, this year there is also a sharp increase in supplies from russia — 111,000 tons of gas in 9 months, which is 11 times higher than the figure for the same period last year.

Previously, russia sent LNG to the markets of Poland, Ukraine and the countries of northwestern Europe. But after the invasion of Ukraine and the introduction of sanctions by the EU, the terrorist country had to look for alternative export routes.
