Ukraine delivered 14.5 thousand tons of corn to Malawi as part of Grain From Ukraine
Ukraine delivered 14,500 tons of corn to Malawi as part of the Grain From Ukraine humanitarian program.
Almost another 5,000 tons will be delivered to the country in the coming weeks, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on social network X.
He noted that Malawi is experiencing a devastating drought this year which has wiped out much of the local maize production and caused severe food insecurity.
The supply of corn from Ukraine will help stabilize the situation and ensure the monthly needs of more than 1.5 million Malawians, the president said.
Zelenskyi reminded that Ukraine remains committed to its role as a global guarantor of food security, even as it defends itself against a full-scale Russian invasion and attacks on ports and agricultural infrastructure.
“Ukraine’s goal is not only to provide food in times of need, but also to exchange knowledge and technology with African partners to help them become more self-sufficient and independent in agricultural production,” he commented.
Volodymyr Zelensky also announced that this will be one of the main topics of the upcoming 3rd Food Security Summit in Kyiv. Ukraine is counting on a broad representation of African states and other partners at this event.
Previously, USM reported that Ukraine wants to increase the supply of agricultural products within the framework of Grain from Ukraine.
