Barge freight rates on the Danube have doubled in a month
Barge freight rates in the direction of the Danube ports increased from €18/t to €44/t during the month.
The information was shared by Dmytro Kazanin, director of the Teus logistics and forwarding company.
“Barge freight cost 18 €/t a month ago, now it’s 44 €/t. Vessels stopped entering, there was an ambiguous situation with freight. That’s why we offered the best transshipment option, namely in Galatasaray. By railway wagons on a wide gauge (1,520 mm) to Galati, there to be transshipped from wagons to motor vehicles and then to Konstanz,” Kazanin said in an interview with Latifundist.
According to him, transshipment of grain from wagons to motor vehicles saves time, because the wagons stand idle for 20 days waiting for unloading in Constanta. The car is unloaded faster and arrives in a day.
