Russia asks China for money for Arctic shipping

During his visit to Beijing, Putin “begged” for investments in the development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR).
During his participation in China’s infrastructure forum ” Belt and Road Initiative ” on October 18 in Beijing, Russian President Vladimir Putin sought international investments for the development of NSR. Splash writes about it.
“We invite interested states to take a direct part in its (ed. note: Northern Sea Route) development, we are ready to provide icebreakers with reliable navigation, communication and supplies,” Putin said.
We will remind, due to sanctions, Russia reoriented itself to the Asian market. Most ships from the Russian Federation carry out Arctic flights on NSR. Thus, freight transportation on the northern route increased to 34 million tons in 2022, compared to 4 million tons in 2014. The Kremlin hopes to increase the capacity of NSR to 100 million tons in 2026 and to 200 million tons in 2030.
In June 2023, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that over the next 13 years, about 21 billion dollars will be invested in the development of NSR. Investments will include the construction of 50 icebreakers and ice-class ships, the construction of ports and the creation of an orbital satellite system.
