Water pollution after the attack on Chornomorsk reached the “Tuzlivsky Lymany”

The oil slick on the coast of the Odesa region appeared after a strike on the port infrastructure of Chornomorsk on April 26.
As a result of the Russian attack on the port of Chornomorsk, about 6,500 tons of sunflower oil entered the water area. This was reported by Ivan Rusev, Doctor of Biological Sciences and Head of the National Park’s Research Department.
The expert noted that earlier the pollution covered more than 200 square kilometers of the water area between Odesa and Sergiivka, after which it began to gradually move along the coast in the direction of the “Tuzlivsky Lymany”.
According to satellite monitoring, the oil slick reached the water area of the national park on May 8. Pollution was recorded on certain areas of the sandbank, in particular within the nature reserve.
According to the scientist, the area of pollution in certain areas reached about 10 thousand square meters. m. As of the time of publication of the reports, no oil-contaminated birds were found in the park.
Ivan Rusev also recalled that after the strike on the port infrastructure near the port of Pivdennyi in December 2025, sand contamination and bird deaths were already recorded in the “Tuzlivsky Lymany”.

Let us recall that on April 26, as a result of shelling of the city, the infrastructure of the sea commercial port “Chornomorsk” was damaged. Also, a tank with sunflower oil with a capacity of 6 thousand tons was destroyed during the fire.
