EU prepares new sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet, — Politico

The European Union, within the framework of the 21st package of sanctions, may tighten restrictions against the Russian shadow fleet and companies involved in the sale of stolen Ukrainian grain.
This is reported by Politico, citing European diplomats and officials.
According to the publication’s interlocutors, the new restrictions should increase pressure on the Kremlin due to the reduction of revenues from Russian oil exports and other maritime trade schemes.
It is expected that the package of sanctions may be adopted in late June or early July.
In addition to the shadow fleet, sanctions may affect Russian banks, financial institutions, enterprises of the military-industrial complex, as well as companies involved in the sale of grain exported from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
According to Politico, the EU is also considering the possibility of renewing the idea of banning sea transportation for Russian vessels. This initiative was previously blocked by Greece and Malta.
Earlier, the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense identified 12 more “shadow fleet” tankers and more than 200 captains.
