The European Union will extend current sanctions against Russia for the first time for a year

EU leaders at a summit in Brussels agreed to extend the current sanctions against Russia for a year instead of the traditional six months.

This is reported by Reuters Reuters and Euronews.

The decision to extend the sanctions for a year should provide greater predictability for Ukraine. At the same time, individual sanctions will continue to be reviewed every six months.

So far, the EU has adopted 20 packages of economic and individual sanctions against Russia.

Recall that at the same time, the European Commission is already preparing the 21st package of sanctions, which will, in particular, expand restrictions against the so-called “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation. It is planned to add another 30 to the 632 vessels already under sanctions.

In particular, for the first time, new restrictions will be directed at vessels that help the “shadow fleet”, for example, by providing bunkering and other services.
