Poland will not lift the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products

Warsaw insists that the current restrictions are the only way to stabilize the Polish agricultural market.
Poland sees no possibility of lifting the unilateral ban on the import of certain types of Ukrainian agricultural products. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Poland, Adam Nowak, writes “Ukrinform”
“We see no possibility of lifting these decisions, that is, the unilateral ban that we introduced, as this would be unfavorable for the Polish agricultural market, Polish farmers and, most importantly, in our opinion, also for consumers,” said Nowak.
According to him, Ukraine has received liberalized access to the EU market without the need to fulfill some of the requirements and standards mandatory for Polish farmers.
Warsaw also conveyed its position to Brussels. During a recent visit to Poland by the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Christoph Hansen, the Polish side insisted on preserving the current market protection mechanisms.
“We have clearly signaled that we do not see the possibility of canceling this mechanism, since such trade liberalization is disadvantageous for Poland. This is the only way to stabilize the Polish agricultural market,” the deputy minister emphasized.
Recall that Poland, together with several other EU countries, introduced unilateral restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products in 2023. At that time, this was justified by the need to protect its own farmers from destabilization of the domestic market.
Also, earlier, a representative of Polish farmers stated that Ukrainian agricultural products were crowding them out of the market.
