Shallowing of the Danube complicates fuel supply to southern Ukraine

The decline in the water level on the Danube complicates fuel logistics in southern Ukraine, where the supply of the resource remains limited.

According to the A-95 Consulting Group, since the beginning of August, the water level in the Chernavoda area has decreased to 218 cm, while the Sulina Canal maintains the regulatory permissible draft of vessels at 7.01 m.

Romania remains a key direction for fuel supplies to southern Ukraine. Against the background of limited supply in Constanta, traders have begun to more actively use alternative supplies, in particular diesel fuel of Greek and Indian origin.

Part of the volumes are being reoriented to road transport. From July 27 to August 2, about 6 thousand tons of diesel fuel arrived from Romania by fuel tankers – the largest weekly volume since December 2024.

Thus, restrictions on Danube logistics are already increasing the load on land routes for fuel supplies from Romania.
