British intelligence has revealed why Russia is attacking ports on the Danube with drones

Russia uses Iranian “Shaheds” to strike Ukrainian ports on the Danube near NATO borders. Drones carry less risk of escalation than cruise missiles.

Over the past two weeks, Russia has carried out several strikes on Ukrainian ports on the Danube River using Iranian drones, the British Ministry of Defense said, writes RBC-Ukraine.

“It is very likely that she is trying to force international shipping to stop trading through the ports,” the intelligence said.

Drones have reportedly struck targets as little as 200 meters from the Romanian border, suggesting Russia has developed a risk for strikes near NATO territory.

“There is a real possibility that Russia is using drones to launch strikes in the area, believing that they carry less risk of escalation than cruise missiles. Russia probably considers them quite accurate, and they have much smaller warheads than cruise missiles,” the British Ministry of Defense notes.
