Greek shipowners are the largest carriers of oil from Russia

In May 2024, tankers owned by Greek shipowners transported more from the Baltic Sea than tankers from any other country.

Andriy Klymenko, the head of the Monitoring Group of the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies, reports this.

According to him, in May, Russian ports in the Black Sea exported 3.2 times less than Russian ports in the Baltic Sea.

“Shadow Fleet” is absolutely a media technology, with the help of which they somewhat naively try to cover up the participation of absolutely specific countries in the transportation of Russian oil,” Andriy Klymenko believes.

Thus, according to the expert, in May, Greek carriers transported 3.4 million tons of Russian oil on 30 tankers from the Baltic Sea. This is 30% of the total volume of exports.

In second place is the UAE-Russia company, which transported 18 million tons of oil with 17 tankers, or 16% of the entire cargo turnover.

In third place are tankers from offshore jurisdictions, where, according to Klymenko, it is not easy to immediately establish the real owners (they are usually called the “shadow fleet”). Tankers from these jurisdictions transported 1.3 million tons of oil, or 11.62% or 12 tankers out of a total of 100.

Earlier, Andriy Klymenko also shared his opinion on what the new EU and US sanctions policy against the Russian Federation could be.
