Moldova, together with Ukraine, will rebuild a railway station on the line to the port of Reni
“Ukrzaliznytsia” will take part in the reconstruction by Moldova of the railway section on the transport corridor to the port of Reni.
Within the framework of the partnership, the Velchynets-Oknica-Beltsy-Ungen-Kyshiniv-Kainary railway corridor will be restored, the Ministry of Development, Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine reported. The length of the corridor is 400 km. The project is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2024.
“The restoration of this section is an important step for strengthening railway logistics in the Danube direction. Thanks to it, exporters will receive a convenient transport corridor connected, in particular, with the port of Reni. This is one of the important elements of the development of export logistics in Bessarabia,” stressed Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov.
The station reconstruction project was developed by railway workers of Moldova as part of the “Paths of Solidarity” initiative, which is supported by the European Commission and provides for the development of alternative logistics routes, in particular for the export of agricultural products from Ukraine.
According to Oleh Tofilat, General Director of State Enterprise “Railways of Moldova”, Ukraine has the necessary equipment and highly qualified employees who are able to quickly and efficiently implement infrastructure projects of any complexity. After the reconstruction of the station, its carrying capacity will increase, the speed of trains will increase and the quality of freight transportation will improve.
The project will be implemented at the expense of partners and international financial institutions. In particular, 32 million euros will be transferred to Moldova, and then directed to Ukrzaliznytsia for the restoration of the railway corridor.
