Tankers transporting oil from the Russian Federation are stuck on the Northern Sea Route

Two tankers of the “Aframax” class, which transport Russian oil from the Baltic ports of the Russian Federation to China via the Northern Sea Route, are stuck and maneuvering in the East Siberian Sea.

The tankers have been maneuvering for almost three days, Mind reports. The reasons for this situation remain unknown.

This route of tankers was used to transport raw materials to China earlier, but from Murmansk. Russia usually exported oil to Europe from the Baltic ports. However, after the embargo on imports of Rosneft to the EU from December 5, 2022, the direction of oil transportation has changed.

Such a delay on the way may lead to a change in the timing of the tankers’ arrival in China, especially considering that the tankers may contain up to 224,000 tons of oil.
